Coach Jeanette Cantor ACSM, NASMI was asked by Coaches Carolyn Rohrer and Shannon Rohrer in 2017 to join the Kuypervolleyball team as the Strength and Conditioning Coach. During the past 3 seasons, the team has had their ups and downs with wins and losses, good health and injuries, and personal victories and challenges. Through it all, I have been blessed and inspired by the team’s ability to pick themselves up from defeat, keep going, and press on to the next goal. Philippians 3:13-14 has been their team verse as it applies both spiritually and in every-day life. “Brethren I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

The team’s first games ended in both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams losing, but not without a good fight. Their second games last Friday yielded a win for the Varsity team after an exciting battle with Heritage and a loss for the Junior Varsity team after a 3 set fight-to-the-finish against CLA. In both games, the teams were down in points but not in spirit. The girls played hard, kept trying, and didn’t give up.

What a great application this is to consider with our relationship with the Lord and His plan for our lives. For the believer, we have already won the battle by putting our faith in the saving work of Christ’s death and resurrection. Sometimes He allows hard trials into our lives. One goal as Christians is to live our lives as pleasing to the Lord, regardless of good or bad circumstances. We are to “keep trying and not give up” as we are encouraged by the reading of His word and spending time in prayer.As the Kuyper volleyball team prepares for next Friday’s games, may we remind ourselves to press on in the Lord in all we do, for the glory of God.
